Staying Accountable – 2013 Goals Update

Goals Update

To stay accountable, I will revisit my 2013 goals each month.

January was a crazy month because we were hit with the stomach plague that’s been going around.

Norovirus

It lasted for about two weeks. That threw off my schedule a bit, but I’m getting back on track. Here’s where I left off with January.

1. Get better at using my camera.

Complete honesty – I barely touched my camera in January. I did, however, buy a flash diffuser and I’ve played with that a bit. I want to play with my lightbox. (Because once the lights are set up, I’m pretty sure I can lure a kitty in there and take the greatest cat portraits of my life.) That’s on the list for February.

2. Read at least 75 books in 2013.

With that goal, I need to read 6.25 books each month. I read five. I’m not including the 6 books written by Marian Keyes that I started and stopped reading after 20 pages. I will be spending 10+ hours on a plane this month, so I suspect I’ll have more than enough to make up for the deficit from last month.

3. Garden

I haven’t touched anything close to a garden. I did review which veggies I need to plant during each month. I still have a lot of work to do to make this happen.

4. Stay Organized

I’m on this one. I added some additional tools to keep my office and worklife more organized and they are helping a lot. I’m also doing a written meal plan. These are things that deserve their own posts.

5. Create a fitness routine.

This is still a mess. The virus made me miserable for two weeks and I wasn’t doing much. I started walking again. I also purchased a ballet barre to install in our exercise room. Sadly, there isn’t a place in the room where I can use it safely. (The one spot that is open doesn’t have studs so that we can mount it on the wall.) I will likely need to return it because there’s really no other spot for it.

6. Save more.

I’m doing okay here. I have an automatic transfer to my Capital One 360 account that I make each time I get paid. It’s not a ton, but it’s getting me into the habit of saving. I’m also working really hard to cut grocery costs when possible so that I can save money there. The more I save there, the more than I can put into savings each  month.

As for the theme of the year, I’m doing okay.

Success. I’m doing about the same there. Focusing on favorable outcomes whenever possible.

Joy. I think I tried my best. But two weeks with a stomach virus will make anyone a little crabby.

Balance. I’m definitely doing better here. I’m giving myself more personal time. I’ve spent under an hour working for the past two weekends, which is a big change. I’ve got more progress to make, but it’s definitely improving.

How did you do with your 2013 goals in January? Any fun updates to report?

Comments

  1. I really like this update and how honest you are! Keep it up girl, the more you talk about it and share with others the easier the accountability will come! What we fear most is what we most need to do :)

  2. Yes, agree with Laura – very honest & you are doing great! I got that stomach flu on my 55th bday last November & it was BAD & now I got the cold/cough version – I am so done with this flu season! I don’t get sick for years & years & I turn 55 & twice now.. WAIT – time to get rid of 55.. maybe I need to be 56 already! ;)

  3. Great idea to review your goals monthly! Let’s see… I’ve started running again so that will help me with my time goals for the 5K and half marathon. And that’s pretty much it! LoL. A lot of my goals are races so they will happen when the time comes along! Great job keeping on top of things!
