On Friday, I mentioned that a new computer purchase may be in the future. By future, I should have mentioned that there was no doubt in my mind that it was happening damn soon. Before we talk about new computer, I'd like to pay tribute to old computer.
Old Computer has served me well. Old Computer was a Toshiba Satellite. I got it as a graduation gift in April 2006, right before I graduated from law school. You see, at that point, I had spilled water on Old Old Computer (another Toshiba Satellite). Old Computer survived bar prep with me. It survived transferring Kittenagogo to Typepad. It survived the editing of countless photos. I use my computers A LOT. When I work at home, I use this computer, not a work issued laptop because I prefer my precious Toshiba Satellite to Dell.
Slowly but surely, Old Computer has shown signs of desperately wanting to die. Or take a really long rest. Editing photos has become pure hell. There are times when I have to reboot two or three times to get programs to launch. I slowly but surely accepted that Old Computer needed to be replaced. But I did not want to spend the money to replace old computer. I wanted to KILL DISCOVER. But then we went and started a photoblog and it took years off of my life to edit the damn postcard that we use as the template on our website.
If I haven't made it clear, I'm pretty dedicated to Toshiba. I've converted my family, and now my husband. I LOVE them. Old Old Computer didn't show any signs of aging until an incident in pre-trial methods with a bottle of water. And Old Computer has been through quite a bit (uh, bar exam), but it has served me well. Honestly, I'm glad it was kind enough to not crash completely before I could replace it because I have tons of photos on there and I'd like it to transfer peacefully.
While I wasn't ready to replace Old Computer quite yet, I have to say, New Computer is dreamy. I have forgotten what it is like to work on a fast computer. It is amazing. Ah, to edit photos quickly. Ah, to get through an entire session of blogging without having to reboot at least once. I like Windows 7. I've also tried Google Chrome and I like it a lot. It's speedy.
New Computer, welcome to the family. At $799 (plus excessive 8.1% Clark County sales tax), I think you were a pretty good deal. I also bought Quicken and I think it is pretty sexy. But more on that in another post. Most importantly, this was a big purchase and I had cash. (And we'll put this in the business expense column.)

Enjoy! I know what it’s like rebooting, rebooting, rebooting. Not fun at all. I need to upgrade to Windows 7 because I can’t stand Vista.
