January Groceries

We talked a lot about groceries in January.  I said that I wanted to lower my grocery budget to $450.  But then I got worried that there were 5 Sundays in January.  This became perplexing because I don't count any of my other charges until they post with my bank account.  So I am doing the same for groceries and all other purchases.  New rule:  it comes out of the budget whenever it posts with Wells Fargo.  This is to make my life easier as far as tracking my budget goes.

Therefore, grocery spending for January came out to $385.  Not too shabby.

February is going to be a challenge.  The first weekend was around $73.  This past Saturday, I had to run to Smith's for a few things.  We are currently dealing with a major orange addiction in the Casa de Frugal Lawyer.  Filling a reusable produce bag is no longer enough to get us through the week.  Oh no.  I actually took one of their boxes and then put the oranges that I wanted into the box and rearranged their display.  So, a few items and a very large supply of oranges was about $30.

Sunday was the regular grocery shopping trip.  It was a big one.  Our fridge was empty.  Fortunately, there was a large stash of coupons and I had my quarterly rewards coupon from Smith's for $23 off.  I got tons of stuff, including many toiletries and it was about $102.

This leaves me with a reasonable budget for the remaining half of the month.  I've become obsessed with making soup, which is great for work.  Brian is currently in love with homemade yogurt, so I have been making a lot of that too.  These are great healthy options for us.

January was a success.  I'm hoping to make sure that February stays on track too.
